May 16, 2011:Gold Making Guide

So a lot of people have been wondering how I make my gold so quickly. It's actually really simple and only requires a bit of mindless killing. Hope this guide helps and inspires more people to farm gold like I do. It honestly only requires about an hour or two of killing every other day. I am currently up to 52k gold and 400 mushrooms. If you don't believe me, here's a pic:

-------------------- Level 1-10 --------------------
The easiest way to make quick cash from level 1 to level 10 is to simply kill cows and wolves. It's not a lot of cash in the grand scheme of things but it will get the job done and let you purchase your equips fairly easily. Cow hides sell for 2g a piece and wolf skins sell for 4g a piece. Not bad.

-------------------- Level 11-14 --------------------
Here is where you'll start making a decent amount of money fairly quickly. A lot of people need mushrooms to exchange for their level 10/13 equips from the Mushroom Man. However, gathering mushrooms can be a long and tedious process considering you'll need 190 for the level 10 armor set and level 13 weapon and an additional 80 for a convenient skill scroll that will enable you to teleport outside of Glenvale (a great time saver). Mushrooms sell for about 5-7g a piece depending on the person and bees have the highest mushroom drop rate. 100 mushrooms will take roughly 30 mins to an hour to gather.

Another great method of gold farming is killing bats in the sewers on the way to the Sewer Troll. They hit fairly hard though and are auto aggro until you pass their level. However, they drop a hefty 12g a piece which is a fairly large amount at this level.

-------------------- Level 15-16 --------------------
This is more of a filler area and bees/bats would probably still be your best bet for gathering money. However, an alternative area would be the Savage Sheep map. They drop 2 wolf skins as well as other various food items. They hit hard for their level but at least you'll get a fair amount of exp for killing them.

-------------------- Level 17-20 --------------------
Here is the point at which you'll make large amounts of money fairly quickly. Currently, Bandits are the best source of gold farming in the game. The Warrior Bandit can drop a whopping 90g at a time (if you're lucky). Normally they'll drop around 20-50g a kill. The other Bandits will drop around 20g and some food items so you won't have to buy them again and again. This means that Bandits are pretty much 100% profit. The only thing you have to worry about is their damage ranges. Only take on one at a time as any more can be bad for your health.

-------------------- Bossing --------------------
An experimental way of making money would be to sell the unique equips dropped by the various bosses. However, due to the SB on pickup problem, you can't sell these the traditional way. The only way to "sell" these items would be to form a team who could actually kill the boss and inviting "buyers" along to sit back, wait til the equip drops, drop a certain amount of gold corresponding to the value of the item or whatever the attacking party is willing to sell it for, and then loot the equip(s). An even split of the gold would also have to be factored in as each member of the attacking party would have to get their fair share. Say you charged 1500g for a Flame equip dropped by Molten Lady. When an equip drops, the buyer will first drop the 1500g, the leader of the party will loot the gold, and then the buyer is free to loot the flame equip. The leader would then have to divide the total gold amount by the total number of attackers in the party and split it up that way. So if there were 3 people in the attacking party, each member would receive 500g.

That is how we got around the problem of untradeable unique boss items in several other games I've played (at least until the creators finally decided to make boss equips tradeable via a certain method whether it be a quest or an item you had to pay for). It isn't the most trustworthy method and it is quite easy to be ripped off, but if your group is powerful enough, it's fairly easy to just declare that person a dick and follow them everywhere killing them when possible to make sure their life is a living hell. After all, they can't trade that item to another character so there's no way for them to transfer it to another one of their accounts which would ultimately make that item useless to them.

May 08, 2011: Stat Builds

-------------------- Warrior Stat Builds --------------------

Bossing Build - Max Agi, Rest into End

Training Build - Max Str, Rest into End

Hybrid Bossing Build - Max Agi, Some into End until HP = 300, Rest into Str

As a Warrior, you will be the tank of the party when bossing. This means you will be taking the full force of the boss and any monsters that happen to be spawned with the boss. Simply stand in front of the boss and hammer away at it while a Whisperer heals you. The Training Build ensures that you have plenty of HP and dish out a large amount of damage at all times. The Hybrid Bossing Build allows you to have the defense/avoidability of a Bossing Build Warrior while allowing you to have a decent amount of physical damage. However, keep in mind that you will have significantly less HP than other builds.

-------------------- Wizard Stat Builds --------------------

All Encompassing Build - Max End, Rest into Int

As a Wizard, you will be sniping 99% of the time while training and 100% of the time when bossing so there is no real need for Agi, Will, or Str.

-------------------- Whisperer Stat Builds --------------------

All Encompassing Build - Max Int, Rest into End

As a Whisperer, your main job will be healing during boss fights so a large pool of Spirit is necessary. Like Wizards, you will be sniping 99% of the time when training so there is no real need for anything but Int/End.

Note: When I say, "Max [stat1], Rest into [stat2]," I mean put all the points you can into your main stat until you get the message stating that you are unable to add anymore points to that stat. Then add points to your secondary stat UNTIL you able to add points to your main stat again. After a certain level, it's usually [2 points into your main stat and 1 point into your secondary stat] every time you level up.

There are plenty of other stat builds but these are the ones that I've found to be the most effective. If you have stat builds of your own, please post them for others to see :)

May 07, 2011:Version 1.4.4 Released!

"Patch Notes v1.4.4:
• Usergroup support in the engine.
• Tier 2 and Tier 3 supporters now have gold names & text.
• Hopefully fixed the cause of the map change errors.

Not much to add here. If anyone can go see if they continue to get the map change error then that'd be fantastic. I think I've come across at least one of the causes of CTD on map change and fixed it but there may be more.

Anyone who's in the support groups should check if they have the right name & text colour ingame. You may need to login twice for the change to take effect.

Apart from that very little was done. Expect the Developer's Edition to be released later." - Robin

Basically here's the rundown on the update:

1. There a now different usergroups, supporters and regular users
2. The "Support" usergroup will have golden text in-game and there names will appear in gold both in-game and on the site.
3. Some people have experienced map change errors (disconnect for an unknown reason when you change maps). Supposedly fixed, but maybe not.

Note: If you do decide to donate £40+, you will get the open source game engine for CrystalShire AND it will include pretty much all updates as the actual game, just not at the same time.

May 06,2011:Website Spoilers

So I noticed today, when I was checking the CrystalShire website, that there was a newly added animated news banner. It shows the 5 most recent updates in the game.

#3 - Keep an eye out for special events around CrystalShire during the holiday periods.

#4 - A fantastic new boss encounter is now available! Grab your gear and get ready to fight!

Update #3 simply states that if there's a holiday that's coming up and it's a large holiday, there will likely be a special event or event items for a certain time period.

Update #4 is the one I'm most focused on. The website has a picture of two women who both have horns. This either means that there's going to be two separate bosses (unlikely) or both of them are considered one boss (Like Molten Lady and her Healers). I'm hoping that this boss battle will be far more difficult and require a larger amount of teamwork to defeat.

So that's the rundown for today. Starting work next Thursday. Got all 3 of my characters to 20. Not much for me to do til the next update lol.

May 05, 2011:Version 1.4.3 Released

"Patch Notes v1.4.3:
• Internal account name length limit removed.
• Npcs can no longer heal over their max health.
• Boss chamber npcs are now ALWAYS aggressive. As such all bosses and boss adds have had their levels reset to what they should be.
• Dwarven City unlocked north of Glenvale.
• Level 17-20 whites now available in the Dwarven City.
• Level 10-20 spell ranks unlocked.

Nothing really to add to this. I'm still working on the Undercity dungeon below the dwarven city. Depending on how fast I can get the systems in place for the boss fight it should be opened up over the next few days.

I'm also planning on adding new item bonuses such as regeneration rate bonuses, spell damage boosts etc. etc. Just some stuff I can add to caster equipment to make it a bit more useful.

And yes, I am planning on adding some level 10+ spells but these will only be added once I've finished creating the buff system."

-Robin (CrystalShire Forums)

So that pretty much sums it up. The boss glitch where level 20's could solo the bosses is now gone. The new buff system looks promising, however, I think instead of items with buffs, skill buffs should be added first. The new spell ranking system was added and now your spells can level up even more (great news for Wizards and Whisperers). The Dwarven City looks nice and it's well designed.

P.S. - I GOT THE JOB I APPLIED FOR ^-^

May 04, 2011:Dwarven Underground Village

Today the new Dwarven Village was released late afternoon. The update added a small dwarven village underground to the left of the map containing the venomous plants. Currently, the only benefits the village offers are some new pieces of equipment.

Level 18-20 Equips are now available for 200g per equip.

I'm pretty sure this was an update added today, unless I missed it and thought I got another update due to the fact that I system restored -___-. Either way, hope everyone enjoys the new equipment and scenery!

In addition to the new tier equipment, spells have also increased in maximum level which means more damage xP

May 03, 2011:Venomous Plants

A new area was released today and with it comes a new bunch of monsters. The Dwarven Mines area has finally been unblocked and new content should quickly follow. The new plant monsters are to train on so people can get to level 20 without getting stuck at level 19 and then killing tons of bandits because they only give 1/2 exp at that level.

In addition to the new map being opened up, the bandit map has also been slightly vamped up. There are now more bandits that will spawn at the bandit map. Nice job Robin :)

New weapons, armor, spells, and npcs all await us in the Dwarven Mines. I hope even more new content pops up within the month.

New Monster Data Added! - Venomous Flower (see monster database)

May 02, 2011:Cut-Throat Bandits and Savage Sheep!

Some new and fresh maps, along with some new monsters, have released today and I finally got to level 20! Huzzah!

But seriously, the new areas definitely helped the leveling process (up until now I was killing bosses with other people and getting maybe 300exp a kill lol). The new bandit map is a great place to train, however, due to its slow spawn and small amount of monsters (3 bandits, 1 bandit mage, and 1 bandit whisp to be exact), it could quickly become a very fought over leveling map where disputes may arise. Already, several players were fighting over the Savage Sheep map to the right (low levels exploring/training were getting killed by a higher level). It was bound to happen sooner or later lol. All good games come with their own breed of power hungry people.

The Savage Sheep mobs curiously drop wolf pelts.....Why?....I'm not entirely sure. Perhaps its just a filler or something for them to drop currently. I don't know, I don't particularly care lol.

No new content, as far as weapons, armor, and spells go, were not released as of yet. Robin hinted about new level 15+ Spells and stated that there would be a new equipment tier being released in the coming updates. I eagerly await the next update.

The monster database has been updated with partial Savage Sheep and Bandit info: Monster Database

As always, great job on the new content Robin!

May 01, 2011:Updates Galore!

So I haven't been on in about a week. Mainly due to final exams being this week but now that I'm done with that I've got GREAT news!

First, UPDATES!!!!

Second, I have an interview Thursday for a job :3

Well first off, the updates. Currently CrystalShire is at 1.4.2 however, several bugs are in this current version (unless I'm missing something).

-Posted By Robin on CrystalShire Forums-
-------------------------------------------------------------

Patch Notes v1.4.2:
• Level cap raised to 20.
• New proficiency system. To stop unneeded item cloning each class now has an equipment proficiency which can be shared by the other classes.
• Duplicate items removed. Some items re-fashioned to be used by multiple classes using the proficiency system. The inventory faery will replace all removed items with a new item type.
• New item type - "Faery Note". It serves absolutely no purpose at all other than to replace old items and give you the chance to get your cash back by selling them to a shop.
• 50+ new character sprites
• New tier of equipment.
• New tier of food.
• Completely new areas to explore, including a dwarven village.
• New npcs to fight.
• The Little Boy outside of Glenvale has finally finished his tunnel! Talk to him to sneak in to Glenvale.
• "Supporter" account type created. Donating a certain amount of cash will automatically convert your account. All characters in your account will be shown with a gold name.
• Administrators are now pink.
-------------------------------------------------------------

So far the updates have been pretty good and well oriented. The new food system does help ease the pain felt on warriors/mages' wallets. However, food items cannot be used in battle. Therefore, you must wait about 5 seconds after you were last in combat to use food items. The food items also restore HP in bits (+5, +10, +15) and, if interrupted by combat, will cease to replenish HP.

I have yet to see the new tier of equipment in-game and I'm doing my best to find out where to get it.

I have to admit, I was a bit confused with the proficiency system at first but basically, Mages and Whisperers now have the same equips and Warriors have their usual equips.

The tunnel system into Glenvale definitely helps new players by allowing them to get the lvl 10 equipment without having to get the aid of other players while killing the Sewer Troll for the Glenvale Key. However, it is still beneficial to have the key as you don't have to pay a fee every time you enter and you can enter the underground catacombs!

The Level Cap raise is something we were all looking forward to. Finally we can get to lvl 20, however, due to the inability to get to the new areas (still can't find them) I don't believe we'll be getting much higher than 17 or 18.

As far as the Dwarven Village and New NPCs to fight goes....I still have yet to find the area. No one I know has found it so I'm assuming it's either closed and maybe glitched or you need to do something extra special to get there. O_O

Once again, great updates by Robin, but there do seem to be a few glitches here and there :)
